Have you ever felt a spinning sensation where it seems like the world around you is moving? Do you experience frequent dizziness or loss of balance? Then you may be suffering from vertigo. Vertigo is caused by inner ear problems that can have a big effect on your day to day life, as vertigo may occur at random times, last for an unknown period of time, and cause you to feel frustrated at the lack of control you have over your symptoms. Vertigo may even go beyond dizziness and bring about other symptoms, such as minor headaches, migraines, ringing in the ears, nausea, sweating, or even strokes. If you have experienced any of the above symptoms and suspect you have vertigo, Franklin chiropractor Dr. Devan Arman can help!

Forms of Vertigo

There are three type of vertigo that can cause unpleasant dizziness or feelings of being off balance. The most common form of vertigo, BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), is caused by calcium particles cluttered in the inner ear that affect your feeling of balance. Additionally, frequent ear infections can be the cause of another form of vertigo, called vestibular neuritis. The inflammation caused by these infections can worsen and lead to this type of vertigo. Meniere's disease can also lead to vertigo. This disease causes fluid and pressure to build up in the inner ear that, if not treated, can cause vertigo or even significant hearing loss. While the symptoms of vertigo can be very frustrating, there is hope with natural, safe, drug-free chiropractic care in Franklin.

Management of Vertigo Symptoms

Several treatment options are available to manage vertigo and its associated symptoms. Most turn to prescription medication in the hopes that it will rid them of dizziness and the feelings of spinning. However, the problem with medication is that it not only comes with a slew of side effects, but it only temporarily fixes the problem. To truly correct vertigo rather than provide just temporary relief from the symptoms, you must treat the root of the problem—the inner ear. Franklin chiropractor Dr. Devan Arman can address the problems related to the inner ear and will assess your complete neurological health for other contributing factors to your vertigo. Misalignments of the spine, specifically the upper spine, can cause fluid to build up, which is often linked to vertigo. Not only will a gentle adjustment address back and neck pain as is commonly thought, but it can also allow fluid to drain from the ear and vertigo symptoms to decrease.

The Case for Chiropractic

Many case studies have been conducted to explore the effectiveness of chiropractic for treating inner ear problems like vertigo. In one such study, 8 people with BPPV turned to chiropractic care to address their symptoms. After regular visits to a chiropractor over the course of three months, all eight saw a significant decrease in vertigo symptoms. Additionally, a study of 20 individuals with vertigo also saw significant improvement in balance along with reduced neck pain and dizzy spells after consistent chiropractic care.
